Hi! I’m Maureen. And I’m a registered Democrat.
It is true. I really am. What else could I have been when I first registered to vote? At eighteen, I was still in the same working class Irish, Italian, and Jewish neighborhood I had been born into. None of us had ever seen a Republican. What did one look like? How did they dress? Did they have ducks on their ties? My neighbors played mah jongg, not golf. I played stoop ball and I-Declare-War-On. Letting air out of tires or ringing doorbells and running away was the local sport. We all had a pink “spaldeen,” no tennis balls in sight.
So, yes, I am a registered Democrat. In these days of fervent identity consciousness, party affiliation is integral to my ancestral estate. Besides, I live in a tight Democrat town these days. If I need to see the Town Supervisor, the head of Public Works, or my local state rep, I go as one of their own.
Anyway, it is my party and I’ll cry if I want to.
And later this month, I will have the fun of voting for Bernie Sanders in the Democrat Primary. No, no, Bernie is not my man. But I look forward with glee to voting against Hillary in her own district.
Meanwhile, I am having a good time with these graphics from The People’s Cube. I just stumbled across the website this morning. A kind of Red Onion, it offers itself as the only shovel-ready website on the internet. And I believe it. Not sure, though, about its creator who claims to be a former Soviet agitprop artist. (Nowadays, visual art has ascended into agitprop across the board. So it is hard to judge the claim.)
